A lifelong film fanatic with a special adoration for the weird and wonderful world of horror, he's been a part-time podcaster for about 7 years and has always dreamed of hosting his own radio show.

We're thrilled to see Blast Radio help fulfill that dream.

We recently spoke with Corey to learn more about him, his two radio shows, his massive VHS collection, and the self-help radio show he started when he was 7.

Make sure to follow Corey (https://blastradio.com/livefromcocoscabinet or ‘livefromcocoscabinet in the app) to catch his two shows!

Tell us a little bit about yourself

Hello, all! My name is Corey Cummings and I am a high school English teacher who also teaches courses focused on Sci-Fi literature and Fantasy literature. I have been a part-time podcaster for about 7 years now and I have always dreamed of hosting my own radio show. I am a lifelong film fanatic who has a special place in his heart for the weird and wonderful world of horror.

Tell us about your streams

I have two shows on Blast Radio: “Live from Coco’s Cabinet” which is a talk-based show where I discuss film news, highlight items from my personal collection of physical media and other oddities, share unique and bizarre audio from VHS tapes, cassette tapes, CD’s and vinyl records, and even present a weekly old fashioned radio melodrama with my wife called “Amor on the Airwaves.” Everything is recorded live (warts and all) and the show represents the culmination of the past 7 years of podcasting as it is essentially a weekly live podcast.

Additionally, I have a music-focused show that I co-host with my wife called “Promptly.” On this show, my wife and I create 5-song playlists based on lister-submitted prompts and then put them head to head to compete for playlist supremacy! This show is a wonderful way for my wife and I to share our rich and varied taste in music with our beloved listeners.

You're a collector of all things pop culture... what are some of your favorite items?

My pride and joy is definitely my VHS collection. If I were asked to pick something from that collection, I would highlight my complete set of the Paramount Era of films released by weirdo/cult studio Full Moon Entertainment. The 28 movies released between 1990-1994 represent the high point of Full Moon’s output. Released in this era were  unsung masterworks like “Subspecies,” Puppet Master,” “Doctor Mordrid,” and “Shrunken Heads.” These films represent the kind of gonzo filmmaking weirdness that I simply can’t get enough of. It took about a year to track them all down and they enjoy a prominent place on the shelf!

What do you enjoy the most about streaming?

The greatest joy of streaming for me is that it feels like the fulfillment of a dream I have had since I was 7 years old. At that age, I had a little cassette recorder with a built-in microphone that I used to create my own radio show. I would record my voiceovers and then record songs off of the radio. I also had a fake self-help show where I would perform all the voices of the people calling in. I continued to do this for YEARS and this interest grew into a very real dream to one day have my own radio show. This is what lead me to podcasting which started my long journey to Blast Radio. Every time I go live, I feel like that 7-year-old kid again. Every. Single. Time.

How would you describe your streams?

My goal with “Live from Coco’s Cabinet” is to make my listener feel like they have come over to their quirky friend’s house and sat down to have a fun, warm, and inviting chat about movies, music, and all things pop culture. With “Promptly,” my wife and I want our listeners to feel like they are an integral part of the show. We source our prompts from our listeners and they help us determine the “winner” of each round on the show. We aim to select interesting, unique, and often obscure tracks for our listeners to discover. These streams are a weekly destination for our listeners to engage directly with us while they expand their musical palate.

Which product do you use to stream? What is your setup?

I use Blast Broadcast Software to stream everything I feed into my mixer. My mixer contains the following inputs: my microphone, my iPad (which I use as a Soundboard), audio from my VCR, my turntable, a cassette player, and a CD player.

Do you have anything you’d like to promote (upcoming/recent release, show, book, article, etc)?

Listen to my shows!! You can catch “Live from Coco’s Cabinet” every Saturday night at 7 pm CST and “Promptly” every Thursday at 7 pm CST.
